Katie Yoder, AmeriCorps VISTA Fellow
Katie Yoder joined the Lake City EDA staff as an Americorps VISTA (Volunteer in Service to America), serving the EDA through funding from the federal government. Her role is to build the EDA’s capacity to reach the Spanish-speaking population and promote financial literacy.
Yoder graduated from Goshen College in Indiana with a bachelor degree in history, along with a minor in Spanish. She brings a strong background of service, having worked with organizations such as Mennonite Central Committee and Mennonite Disaster Service. These experiences range from home repair in eastern Kentucky and Puerto Rico to teaching English in rural Peru to assisting immigrants through the citizenship process in Ohio (Yoder’s home state).
Yoder serves the Lake City community in a variety of roles. Her language skills and commitment to social equity support Lake City volunteer Hispanic Community Inclusion group. She hopes her experience in this current position prepares her well for further education and work in community development.
The Lake City EDA is grateful to be a partner organization with Southern Minnesota Initiative Foundation.
